these last days have been filled with research and discussions about our project. We visited malmö konsthögskola last friday and were given a tour around the school. The school environment in itself wasn´t that special or inspiring, but at least all students had their own space. We´ve talked to Kami about how to tie this thing together....and it seems like an endless story in ways. There are so many things that need to be done in order to make k3 a nicer, more creative place. We have now decided on making a group dicsussion room, that is a bit private but still not isolated. The original plan was to decorate the room with a nice wallpaper and furniture etc, but since we don´t have much money to spend we had to think again. Yesterday some of us went to a second hand shop and bought two lamps (that we today spray-painted in orange..) we also got a rug, a pilllow and wallpaper-tests, that we got for free, hence the chaotic war of colours in the group room...Started putting it up today, and since we cut the "tests" into smaller bits....it took forever to put not even half of it up....Inside the room, we are also going to have sketches on how a personal space would look like. If each student would have his ot hers own little "office". We thought it would be a good idea to give the student something to call "my own" in school, something that could contribute to a nicer place....

Oh well, very tired, and have a test tomorrow, so gotta study now...

Yesterday half our group went to lund to visit the architecture building and the design center. I was personally not present, but i was told it was quite inspiring and interesting. We have tried to gather som material for the research part...still looking fo r the original k3 manifest (of a digital bauhaus for the 21th century)...apperantly it ahs been changed since its first realeas, in 98 i think it was...
Tomorrow we have a meeting with the "administrations chef" of k3, she is in charge of what can come up on the walls and not....we are hoping on getting a good reason for it and not just that putting art on the wallls can leave marks..
After that we have another meeting with a student at malmö konsthögskola. She is going to give us a tour around the school and show us how they work and WHERE!
i've also been thinking about what places and environments i find inspiring have that k3 doesn't have. I know it's colour, words, and a whole lot of different things to see such as different designs and ideas (input)!
Anyway, we'll probably have to focus on one thing (since we don't really have the possiblility to change the whole school)...so something to put up on the walls, not quite sure waht that thing will be yet though...

final group project

Yesterday we got a new assignment, a group project that will go on for the last two weeks of this course. We are supposed to work with something that we all like and are interested in. So we started off yesterday with brainstorming ideas about all of our interests and hobbies etc...Then we chose a few ideas to talk about a bit more, that suited everyone in the group. After sitting a while in the boring and stiff environment of the school, we decided to go to ikea for some inspiration. We looked at decorations and fabrics in particular, as we are leaning on making some sort of artwork for the plain walls of k3. A school that is meant to have creative students needs to provide an creative environment. Today we had a meeting with kami, our teacher, and we presented some of our ideas to him and discussed it a bit further. For tomorrow we are going to read the "bauhaus manifest" of k3 or something like that. It states how they first intended to use k3, and the looks of it...

In the city- the Ballets

Seems like I've missed a couple of days here, so let me go back a bit....
Wednesday, two days ago, we presented our "space in space" project at school.
Yesterday we had a lecture with the designgroup Unsworn. They were also involved in the last kkd course, when they spoke a lot about fashion and technique and personalized electronics.
This time it was about "crowd-centered choreographies" and action spaces (systems that quietly order us about). The lecture was very interesting and fun. The assignment this time was to do a "crowd-centered choreography", so they had marked out a map of the city with 8 different places. Each group are responsible for two of them, and we are supposed to use our choreography to move the whole class (100 persons) from one place to another in 10 minutes. our group haave two ideas, one is to divide the group into 8 "snakes" and walk like that while doing some movements. In a way, a quite boring idea, but at the same time, we wont have any time to actually show them what to do, and i guess everyone can't be coordinated enough to do anything more complicated....
The second idea is that ecveryone takes 10 steps, and then do a twirl to the right....

As an excercise, the whole class gathered around the orchestra at södergatan(?) at 11, and we all had to wallk to the end of that street in 30 minutes. (the walk usually takes about 3 minutes) The point i guess, was to see or notice things around you that you don't do otherwise...
We created a lot of atention around us anyway...and since we aeren't allowed to really talk to anyone, people got even more confused.

So today is the day we are going to do our choreographies, so we'll see how it goes!!

space in space

Yesterday we met up in our group and discussed different ideas about the project. We had two ideas that we liked the most, one was to create a space in space- a space where you can sit down and relax, think and get away from the hectic surroundings...
The other suggestion was to mix the private area with the public by creating a livingroom outdoors. We decided to split up in two groups and work on one idea each. But the latter idea didn't last, as we didn't have much time to work with...So, the two groups were now one again.

Today we met in södertull to test our idea. We had a bench, a bin and a tree to our disposal and we dressed it all in white...as well as we could that is...Thef final result was according to me pretty shit, and since I didn't think the idea behind the concept was strong enough from the beginning, it faded away even more after today. Oh well, I guess we did what we could, during the timeframe we had been given, and even though we all had different wants about the idea, we managed to agree on a final solution...

walk a walk

Last friday we met in school at 11 and our assignment was to go around to a few different places in the city, that ment something to us, good or bad. We marked the route on a map and at each spot, we stopped to talk about the location, how we experienced it and also, how it could change or look in the future. If you see a place everyday you might not see the potential that a place might have. Usually you don't question why a place looks like it does, or why it is the center if a certain activity and not another for example. I guess it is easier to see potential to a location that doesn't already have any activity, in comparison to a location that is alreday filled with something. That would probably make it harder for you to look at it in any other way.
Now, the idea is that we should choose one of the places we went to and change that place or situation through adding or removing something. We decided to think about it over the weekend and then present our ideas to eachother at monday before we present the final idea to the teachers. We should then test our idea on the spot and document it!

Thursday today, yesterday we presented our final design soltuions by putting up the printouts (on one of UglyCutes artworks). Interesting to see how fantasy is flowing among the students...
Anyways, today we had a lecture held by the group called New Beginings. They talked about some of the projects and designs they´ve made. It was a bit tricky to follow and i found it hard to hear everything they said.I guess it was about giving already excisting things new, or different potentials!
Tomorrow we are going to start working in groups with a project (that´s still not known of) that´s due on wednesday next week. Hopefully it´s something interesting and fun, guess I´ll find out tomorrow.

Spindlers List

So, I've chosen to do a "stressball, idea/pen holder" for my future office space....

When you aren't using it you can have it on your desk as a mysterious sculpture.
When trying to come up with ideas, you can squeeze it to relieve some stress.
And when you come up with an idea, write it down, open Spindlers List and put the paper on the spike (spindle the paper on the spindler). The other end of Spindlers List can be used as a penholder, when you're thinking. I thought this might be a good idea for people like myself that have the need to do something while trying to come up with ideas. Stressballs are however a much better way to occupy yourself than biting your nails...
I also thought that by having a spike to gather your ideas on, you will not loose any notes, due to a messy desk or maybe just a windy day.
But I guess what I would like most about it, is that it wouldn't look like anything else, which would give people something to think about.

(For the prototype, I ended up using those things you use when making flower arrangements, to put the flowers in. I made some holes, for the spike and the pen and then I covered them up in black socks...)

Todays lecture was held by two members from the design group "UglyCute". As their name implies, they could through their different designs explore the border between what's considered ugly to some people and cute to others.

The task we were given to do was to invent and design a low-tech product that doesn't look like anything else and that has a purpose that no-one knows of. It should also be helpful in your future profession....(whatever that might be)
I'm still short on ideas of what to do...
